We Who Follow Should be Happy

In the core of the earthen lake.
In tadpole water they sit
or stand on souls, where
they finger a burnt lover waning.
We may never learn
but pray with pity: who
can know his pain, or can understand
the desolation? Now, now
Don’t shed tear, for broken heart
can condemn you wholly.
Selflessly boughten, is content,
for buried head is sleeping-

Now, presently. We remain solid on this crust
plainly breathless for how long is unknown:
But for today we two continue unhurriedly.
No wrong in our touch.
Blessed we give in and go onward to desire.

What Men Can Do

It is cold down on the asphalt.
The chalk figure sketched with disobedience,
while men with golden shining shields circle silently.
Shocked at the idea of what men can do.
Her love bracelet still clung to her wrist,
possibly a trifling concluding comfort.
The sounds of terror and pain should have filled the air,
But her horse-like face,
with gaping mouth,
would show only absolute stillness.
A rubbered hand picks up the pieces that stain the black rock.
Red, white and blue flash against the muggy brick walls,
the calling card of this tardy cleanup crew.

Absentee Father or Raised by Wolves

Did you ever see that movie “The Devil’s Advocate”?
You know that movie with Al Pacino?
Well I have.
And in it good-old-uncle-Al delivers a beautiful line.
A line that resonates with me to my core.
He says, about God, that he is an “ABSENTEE LAND LORD!”
And I get it.
You might say with a toothy grin,
“Oh, that is a clever quip about the lord all mighty”
Hehe
And I will agree with you.
But I… KNOW… what he means.
God our father.
GOD! My father.
My father was similar.
Not an absentee landlord, but an absentee employer.
You see, I did poorly and received no reward,
do well and I see the bonus.
And I harnessed this attribute of our relationship as of late.
But truthfully how would he know if I was doing well or badly?
How would he know what amount to write on the check but hear-say?
You see, I receive his cash but I don’t receive him as a figure of stability or caring.
Now, I am no slum dog.
I am no physically scarred battered progeny.
I am the child left behind in the shadowy corner of a large house to play with the cat.
Or the dog.
Or the clotting dust.
My male role model was an older homie swigging a bottle.
My ethics were born in the blood and oil stained driveways of house parties as I had to
“Knuckle up or shut up!”
My pat on the back was from a friend getting away with the same crime I did.
My words of wisdom were born from the mouth of the great Greek philosopher Televisionious.
And wouldn’t you be jealous
as all my family members were famous,
like my cousin John McClane and nephew Frodo Baggins.
Sure a man called “pops” is sometimes around for family dinners,
but he hugs some wine and discusses life with his BlackBerry
as he writes his so-called profound poem of the moment.
I see him.
But does he see me?
Or does he just think I am a costly shadow?

Late Night Obsessive Thinking Titled: Me Too

Lets just get one thing straight: The idea that The Big Bang is the beginning of all existence, that there was nothing but nothing before it, is just as ludicrous as a Christian white haired re-creation of Zeus saying “Let there be light!” and then there was. I cannot prove that existence exists, but I can, with assurance say that there is no law within this realm of arguably existing existence which allows the troublesome idea of “something from nothing.” Yet, this explanation for hard to answer questions seems to still worm its way into philosophical, scientific and social debate. It is the scientists’, philosophers’, religious and magicians’ version of “My dog ate my homework.” In fact the idea of absolute nothingness seems impossible for that matter. Vacuums and Voids seem to exist from the movement of the measurable from a space. But something needs to fill this space, as when one thing leaves another takes its place. In fact, true Voids are only imaginary. For example a straw being used to drink water shows, on a larger and cruder scale, the action of creating a Vacuum, which is how a Void is created. As the water leaves the top of the straw more water, and eventually air, gets sucked through the bottom. Everything is connected and so crowded within existence that movement pushes and pulls on that which is adjacent to it. All things interact on the basic idea that the universe is so over populated with substance that there is no way for it not too. When one thing moves, or is moved, it moves things around it. Just as that original thing must have been moved by something else, Lack of movement is impossible and there for lack of substance is impossible. This happenstance of physics challenges the existence of nonexistence as a possible answer for anything. Basically, in order to answer any “Why” or “How” question a lot of time and wind is needed. So it is understandable, though devious and shameful, that people use this half cocked idea of “something from nothing” and basically decide to leave their work unfinis

Politics as I see it

If it is understood that “writers write” and “teachers teach,” then it can be safely assumed that “politicians politician,” which is the ability to seek or hold state or government political office. In the definition of the title there is no assurance that politicians are responsible for the whole of the Commonwealth. So don’t get mad and foam at the mouth over your T.V. dinner when they execute their jobs well and don’t want to do strenuous auxiliary work, like taking care of an entire nation, because that is by definition not their job. I mean, you don’t even want to work weekends.

The Soldiers Project

I feel that this is one of the most important projects geared towards helping the American military. In this day and age most of the population knows someone who has been affected by the multiple military actions occurring around the world. And some might know the trials that they go through overseas, but many lose sight of the fact that these Soldiers still battle when they return home. Post-traumatic Stress and Survivor’s Guilt can destroy the lives of these valiant men and women. The suicide rate of returning Soldiers is astoundingly high. These are the men and women that we trust to protect us while we go about our relatively safe and plentiful lives, the least we can do is help them live as peacefully as possible when they return to us. “The Soldiers Project” describes itself as “a group of licensed mental health professionals who offer free psychological treatment to military service members (active duty, National Guard, Reserves and veterans) who have served or who expect to serve in the conflicts in Iraq or Afghanistan.” This is an organization that truly matters and makes a difference. Each soldier that is helped also has an effect on the family and friends that surround them. But most importantly the soldiers themselves warrant more from us. They put themselves in harm’s way for our country and we don’t even need to risk a scratch to help protect them, all that is needed is our support. When they return home, they deserve to be all the way home.

Thought Process

I make decisions based on social or political philosophy aided by facts and probability. You make decisions based on religion or personal emotion stemmed from personal experience. Religions are a personal choice and bias that is flawed because their principles are written down and unchangeable, which makes them a self-created barrier that traps you for all time as the only constant in the world is change. Also, making decisions based on personal experience weakens your argument because your experience is no more important than any of the other 3 hundred million that exist in America.

What I have been doing

Sorry I haven’t made a new post in a while, but I have not been taking time off. I am writing freelance for Yahoo and Textbroker in order to build a portfolio and maybe even make some money. Ya gotta eat right? I have updated my “Contact” section to include my Yahoo profile and Facebook fan page links. On my Yahoo profile there will be articles that may not show up on my sight due to exclusivity contracts. However I will notify where and what the missing work is. As of right now there is an article I have gotten published about the Occupy Wall Street movement. This article was published first here on AdrianLouisChandler.com, but I am glad that it is getting a wider release. Again the fan page is where you can get together and discuss the work, suggest work, or comment on current event issues. Speaking of which I hope you are all paying attention to the Occupy Wall Street movement still. There are some very interesting things going on these days, so stay aware.

Until next time,

The Continued Occupation

I posted a new work in the “Essays” section. It is a further discussion about the Occupy Wall Street movement that is currently going on. I feel like this is a powerful movement that finally makes sense to the population of our country and I hope we have the resolve to see it through. We know they have the resolve to try and crush it. That we have already begun to see with the incident in Oakland and politicians elsewhere beginning to grumble about it being an encampment and not a protest so as to use lawful discourse to forcefully disband the gatherings. Check out the new essay and tell me what you think on theĀ Facebook page.

Hold strong,

New Poem

I put up a new poem entitled “WARm bed.” I wrote this when I was in high school. I had just had a rough night and was sitting at lunch looking at everyone having a good time, pondering how much trouble I would get in for ripping the smile off someone’s face. Instead of living out that meaningless fantasy of misplaced hatred, I wrote this questioning poem in the form of a bellowing whisper to them. Looking back I think this was the better choice.

Keep it chill,
